You must do it all, from delivering effective projects, managing budgets and people, and communicating as a top-notch professional. So spark your curiosity with ignITE!
The first installment of the Project Management track is an online self-guided 4-part module on the topic of Financial Management for projects. As part of this webinar series, you will be introduced to:
Each part is intended to be completed sequentially in its entirety, but participants can elect to view any of the parts individually and standalone. However, all four (4) parts must be viewed in their entirety and knowledge checks completed to attain the Financial Management Module Certificate.
Part 1: This part, the first in the series, introduces financial concepts of project management. Consistent terminology and concept fundamentals are presented to be built upon in future sessions. These include company financials, project financials, and contract types, and contract terms.
Part 2: This part discusses the approach to establishing budgets for transportation projects and programs. It explains the importance of budgeting, the process of forecasting for securing project and program funding, the difference between professional service fees and capital construction costs, and various budget delivery methods in project management. Two case studies illustrate the application of these concepts in the transportation industry.
Part 3A: This part provides an overview of common project solicitation types that consultants receive over the course of the project acquisition pipeline. Common solicitation terms are discussed, along with different methods of payments and billing rates. This part ties into Part 3B, which discusses how to estimate costs on projects.
Part 3B: This part is a continuation of Part 3A, which discusses the project solicitation process. Part 3B takes the information from the RFP to estimate project costs. Focusing on a "Bottom-up Estimation” approach, this part discusses work breakdown structures and the components and considerations of the cost proposal.
Part 4: This part provides an overview of contingency and risk assessment, budget management over the project lifecycle, financial communication, accounts receivable, and change management. Expanding on the terminology presented in Part 1, the fourth (and final) part of the series explains the important topics of the webinar via a case study.
